An article by BBC News, published today, shows how a name can become synonymous with something, even if you’re unfamiliar with it.
The article, written by Rebecca Mihl, reveals that the name of a girl at a New York City school is also used as a name by the New York Times.
In a follow-up article, she explained how the same name can have a negative impact.
“The first name used in the article is a popular one that’s used in a lot of media, including the New Yorker, which is not really a place you would expect to find a girl who uses that name,” Miht told BBC News.
Mihl explains that the word “New Yorker” is a contraction of “New York City”, and “New” is the word for New York, New York.
That’s not to say it’s a bad name.
Mihls family name is actually Robert, which she said was chosen because of its association with the city.
She says the name “New Girl” was originally used by a teacher, and is also very popular in the community.
“It’s like a super name for a girl, and the people that use it are super supportive of the name,” she said.
New Girl’s nickname, however, has come under fire.
A Facebook page titled ‘New Girl is bad’ has more than 6,700 likes.
Several of the people commenting on the page have pointed out that New Girl’s name is a common one for a lot more girls, and that the spelling has been used in other media, like the New Republic, People, People and People magazine.
But Mihs daughter has a very different name, and she says the “New Boy” nickname is much more appropriate.
I’m so proud of my daughter for choosing the name New Girl.
I just love the way she looks at the world and her love of the arts, she said in an interview with ABC News.
“I’ve heard so many people say it was offensive that she chose it, but I think it’s cool.”
The New Yorker’s name was chosen as a way to reflect the city in which the author lived.
This isn’t the first time that name has been misused.
In January, The New York Post reported that the magazine was using a “New-Girl” name in an ad.
And a few months ago, a girl in New York State was caught using the name, saying it was an honor to be called a New Yorker.
